Many anesthesiologist went to undergraduate school and are M.D. or D.O. doctors. When you think of an anesthesiologist, you don’t think of them as physicians, but as assistants to other physicians. The job of an anesthesiologist extends out of the operating room. Many of them are involved in the pre-operative care and treatment which will be discussed later on. There are specific areas of advancement in which an anesthesiologist can gear their interest in. An anesthesiologist assistant work under the wing of license anesthesiologist. They are required to stay within the field of anesthesia and are not allowed to practice without the supervision of their trained anesthesiologist. They also have to follow the guidelines of the state or the board of medicine. The Certified Anesthesia technician and technologist also have limited authority ,but are very important aspects of the anesthesia patient care team. Another role an anesthesiologist can take is as an anesthesia technician. These healthcare professionals are not doctors or nurse,but are responsibility for handling the equipment such as sterilizing it and troubleshooting so that during the operation they can can monitor the equipment as well. This area requires a high school diploma or a two year degree. This area is growing relatively fast. All of these areas and their requirements vary by the state. Anesthesiologist can also center their focus to certain types of patients. There are pediatric, obstetric, neurosurgical, critical care, pain management and cardio thoracic anesthesiologist. These special areas shows the complexity of the types of medicines that need to be administered depending on the operation. Not all anesthesiologists are part of the hospital community. There are a lot of anesthesiologists that practice in the navy, military and air force.
